Hi!

My mom told me that I should start a blog.

And you all know I always listen to my mommy.

So, here I go.

I've heard my facebook statuses are generally interesting and people enjoy reading them. I figured, hey, if people want to listen to my thoughts, here's a great place to do it. Unlike on a facebook status, I can write ALL I want on this blog. Ha.

The Drive

Driving eleven hours by myself was definitely boring. Although, if someone would have been with me, they would have killed themselves. I listened to 2 mixes, big band, the Annie soundtrack, Memphis, and Mama Mia...twice. So, overall, I guess it was good I was alone. I was able to keep myself company for the most part. Ok, yeah, I did talk to myself a little on the trip down. I got lonely!

Here are a couple of highlights from my trip. Keep in mind, I was extremely bored.

I was at a travel plaza and I overheard some guy ask his friend, "Hey, are there bathrooms in there? (pointing to the plaza).
...does anyone else think this is a stupid question? Why, yes, travel plazas have a giftshop, food, and maps...but no bathrooms. That makes complete sense, right? FACEPALM.

Virginia has numerous interesting street and city names. I personally think Spotsylvania sounds like an interesting place. I would go there. I would also like to check out Scotchtown. Wonder how they got their name...
However, I don't really want to go to Croaker. That doesn't sound like fun. Another interesting city is Dumfries. It's right next to Smartfries.

Ok, don't judge me. I'm easily amused. You all know that.

A road I don't want to travel on is Gallows Drive. I feel like that would result in me being hanged. I do want to know why it's called Gallows Drive...I also don't want to drive down Henpeck Road. I feel like it's another road to death. However, instead of being hanged, I will be pecked to death by hens.

I wouldn't mind driving down Good Hope Road, though. That sounds like a pleasant drive without a noose or sharp beaks.

Did you know there is a National Park called Prince William Forest Park.

...

Is anyone else confused by this? When I first saw it, I thought I somehow drove to England instead of Williamsburg!

Why do we have a National Park named after Prince William? Do they have a Michelle Obama Palace or a Tower of D.C. in England? No. Do we not have enough people in the United States, so we have to borrow famous people from other countries in order to name our National Parks? I feel like this could be classified as treason...

Alright, that was pretty much my drive to Williamsburg. Obviously, I found ways to at least keep myself somewhat entertained.

Today I am moving into my room. Then I am planning on exploring and figuring out where I have to go tomorrow. Ciao for now.

You'll Laugh. You'll Cry. You'll (Facepalm).

Today I got paid for babysitting. I put the money in a compartment in my car, and when I came back to get it later, it was GONE!!!

I realized that it slipped behind the compartment and therefore, was MIA. I didn't think it'd be totally difficult to get the drawer out so I could grab the money. I was wrong.

The compartments were not made to come out. I was able to get certain parts out at different times, but I couldn't get the whole compartment out at once. Eventually, I was able to get the whole thing out. However, some parts broke off of it...but I'm not terribly concerned. I'll survive without that compartment.

I hoped to find my money behind the drawer, and I did! I also found a few other things I wasn't expecting. I found my license that I lost a year ago and 2 credit cards that I lost. I pretty much laughed my butt off for awhile. Love it. I looked everywhere for those!! That's why I'm not terribly upset about losing that compartment. It was a black hole for important things. I feel like my license and credit card are safer with it taped shut.

Oh yeah, I also shoved the drawer back in, which was almost as hard as taking it out. Then I taped it shut. Hmmm...I should put a piece of Caution tape over it....

MOMCC conference starts tomorrow....well, today.
Wow, I'm gonna be tired for my workshop tomorrow...

D.C.

I never thought I'd hear the words "Yay" and "the Holocaust" in the same sentence...
Until this weekend.

I should probably rewind a little bit.

We started Sunday off by a 9:30 National Museum 2 tour of Mount Vernon. Ok, the 9:30 tour became an 11:30 tour because SOMEONE didn't want to wake up at 9:00. Yeah, that was me. We got to Mount Vernon about 9:40 and walked around the grounds. As I'm sure you can imagine, George Washington had a lot of property. We spent about 4 hours there. Our National Treasure tour was pretty cool. We took a tour of the backyard where the "Happy Birthday Mr. President" banner hung and Nick Cage kidnapped the President. We also got a tour of the basement, which not a lot of people get to see. The more the tour guide told us not to touch the brick walls, the more I wanted to run my fingers against the whole wall.

That happens a lot. The more people tell me not to do something, the more I want to do it.
Don't touch that painting!
You mean don't do this!? (and then lick the painting)

Today there was a rack of swords in a Gettysburg store that said "Do Not Handle." However, the guys in the store completely ignored our presence, which irritated me. I slowly lifted up my finger and slowly touched the sword. HA! IN YOUR FACE!

Anyways, moving on.

After the tour of the mansion, (not too shabby by the way) we went to D.C. We parked at the Capitol again, because there's absolutely zero parking in D.C. We began our mile long walk to The Holocaust Museum, which felt like it took forever. In addition to it being a long walk, it was chilly and raining. Finally, we made it to the museum and that's where the "yay" and "the Holocaust" were used in the same sentence.

First we went to the temporary exhibit which was about Nazi propaganda. It was really informational...and there were a lot of pictures! Okay, they also had posters, film, and other artifacts. I'd definitely recommend it.

The permanent exhibit was also interesting. There was tons of information about different groups that were persecuted, the concentration camps, and their experiences. They also had a room full of shoes from the victims, railroad tracks that lead to death camps, and bed bunks from Auschwitz. It was pretty intense. I finished the tour in an hour, which was before my mom, so I decided to go to the kid's exhibit. It was a story of a boy who was sent to live in the ghetto and eventually a concentration camp. It was extremely well done and made it easy for kids to understand.

By the time we were done, it was pouring outside. I didn't want to complain about being cold, tired, and hungry, though. I mean, c'mon, I just came out of the Holocaust Museum. However, I do admit to complaining about being wet. We decided to take the subway to our car. Easy right? Well, once we got to the Capitol South stop, we had no clue where my car was. We had to guess.

We started walking around the Capitol, and by this time we were soaked. Because it was so nice the day before, I was just wearing a sweatshirt. My boots were filled with water. It sucked. We made our way to the other side of the Capitol and didn't see my car. We saw a far away parking lot and started walking to it. Once we got there, we realized my car was in the parking lot NEXT to that one. Ironically, that was the parking lot where we didn't see my car. We had to backtrack a little bit. Not the happiest moment of my life. I have never been to happy to see my car. It was magical.

For dinner we went to Fuddruckers. Only I called it something else...I had the most delicious milkshake. That's all I have to say about that.

It was a pretty epic day.

Spring Break 2011

Spring break. It's for going to Florida. Getting tan on the beach. Drinking. A lot. And overall, getting into trouble.

I am spending my spring break with my mom. No, not in Florida (she's doing that with the rest of my family over Rachel's spring break.) Instead, we decided to go to Gettysburg and Washington D.C. It might not be 80 degrees, but it did get up to 60 today. I think I even got sunburnt...

Yesterday we left pretty early for Gettysburg. When we were close to Gettysburg, we saw a sign that said, "Mr's Ed's Elephant Museum," and the design was a man in front of a bunch of candy. ?????? My sister loves elephants and hates the circus because they abuse elephants and blah blah blah. We decided we had to see what this Mr. Ed's Elephant Museum and Candy Shop was about. Best. Decision. Ever.

We pulled up to the museum and walked around outside first. There were elephant statues all over. I walked up to a giant elephant statue and told my mom to take my picture. A second later, the elephant opened up it's "eyes" and started talking. I literally screamed and jumped back. It scared the hell outta me. Once I got over it, we went inside.

Mr. Ed's elephant museum consisted of 10,000 elephant statues, pictures, toys, etc. It was ridiculous. That was literally the museum. Two rooms with glass cases on both sides, filled with elephants. This guy was crazy. In addition, there was a candy shop. And a gift shop. If you're every in Gettysburg, look it up. It's well worth the laugh, especially after a 7 hour drive.

When we got to Gettysburg, we went to the Battlefield Museum first. However, we were kind of rushed because we got there pretty late. What we saw was cool, though. We didn't have time to walk around the battlefield. We were supposed to go to Baltimore, MD on Monday, but I decided I want to go back to Gettysburg. Hopefully we can walk around a lot more!

After the museum we went to the Dobbin House for dinner. We were seated at a table with extremely comfy chairs. I almost fell asleep...I ordered the duck. I mean, how often do I get the chance to order duck and have someone else pay for it? Not very much. I named him Donald. RIP Donald. I decided I only like duck if it's sauteed or something. It's not as delicious when it's just cooked and sitting in front of you. Pretty bland. Just in case you were wondering...

Then we checked in at the Wyndham Hotel. Because it's off season, it was pretty cheap. Pat on the back for me. It was also extremely nice. I didn't want to get off of the bed, it was so comfy. But alas, I did.

We went on a Ghost tour of Gettysburg, which was pretty cool. Our tour guide was a great story teller. The stories were pretty creepy. She told us a story where 2 ladies were leaving their building late one evening and the elevator took them to the basement. And when they opened the doors, there was a fully operating Civil War hospital and the ghosts beckoned to them, asking them for help. I'm giving you the short version, but I can assure you, it was creepy.

On our way back to the hotel we spotted the movie theatre down the road and I begged my mom to go to a movie. I wanted to see The King's Speech (again). We got in the theatre as 9:27...and there was The King's Speech showing at 9:30. It was fate. Great movie.

After the movie we went back to the hotel and fell asleep right away. This morning we left for D.C.

Once we got to D.C. we parked at the Capitol building and made our way to the tourist attractions. First we went to the National Archives and walked around the public exhibit. I wasn't too impressed. I found it kind of boring. There weren't many cool original documents on display. But then we saw the Declaration, Constitution, and Bill of Rights in the rotunda. That was cool. Wish I could have taken a picture, though. My trip there totally shows that National Treasure is inaccurate. There's no way Riley could have taken his video camera in there. Kind of disappointing.

Then we went to the American History Museum at the Smithsonian. That was definitely interesting. We saw Dorothy's shoes, Kermit the frog, Lincoln's hat, and Julia Child's kitchen. It was pretty neat.

Next we walked towards the WW2 memorial. It took us awhile to get there. We walked about 5 miles today. I'm so out of shape....Anyways, we finally found the memorial. It was very impressive. I took B&W photos on my camera and I hope then turn out. After the WW2 memorial, we found the Lincoln memorial.

After all of that walking, we decided that was enough sightseeing for the day. Unfortunately, our car was parked a couple miles away. Sigh.

Okay, if you're still reading this, you have way too much time on your hands.

Get a life.

I'm going to bed.

...unless my mom's snoring keeps me awake.

Night.
